Class Offerings
2010 – 2011 Academic Year
Preschool – Our preschool class is offered for all children that are ages 3 and 4 by September 30 of this year. These students will be enjoying being introduced to preschool academic concepts such as counting, letter recognition, colors, and seasons while participating in engaging and fun activities, games, and songs. The 3-year old students meet for the first 2 hours of our meeting time in the same class as our 4-year old students and then are dismissed to their parents. The 4-year old students remain in class for the final hour and focus on skills and activities more challenging for the 4-year old.
Kindergarten – Our kindergarten class is designed for students who will be 5 years old by September 30 of this year. They will engage in hands-on activities, games, table time structured learning, and songs appropriate for the kindergarten level. At the end of the year, these students can participate in our annual kindergarten graduation ceremony before promoting to our elementary classes.
Elementary Grades – Children in the elementary grades 1 through 4 will participate in classes such as physical education, Contenders of the Faith for boys and Keepers of the Home for girls, KY State History, and half-year courses general music and nature study. These students are broken into grade levels with grades 1 and 2 in one group and grades 3 and 4 in another group. These grade divisions are based on your child’s age on September 30 and not on their academic achievement and placement. We do not offer core curriculum classes and therefore academic achievement is not as essential in placing students in class grouping.
Middle School – Students whose birthdays place them in grades 5 through 8 will be part of our new middle school program. These students will be taking physical education, Creative Ministries, and an introduction to public speaking and writing for the whole year. The physical education classes will be separated by gender. In addition, full year electives are being offered in construction and Computer 1. Our Creative Ministries class introduces students to creatively expressing their faith through sign language, dramatic recitation, mime, and dowel rod ministry. The Introduction to Public Speaking and Writing class will utilize materials from the Institute for Excellence in Writing. Please see the course selection forms on this website to submit your preference between the Construction and Computer 1 course
High School – The classes offered to our high school students are full-year classes designed to help fill in elective credit gaps as well as life skills preparation. It is our goal to increase the solid spiritual foundation that you have started at home through our Character Traits class. This class is taught by a Christian couple who can engage both male and female students. Some of the elective courses offered this year to high schoolers are nutrition and wellness, Computer 1, College Prep and Public Speaking, Construction, Financial Concepts for Teens by Dave Ramsey, Creative Arts and Expression, and Digital Photography. We see our high school students as valuable assets to our program and encourage their participation in leadership committees within the co-op as well as in working on our yearbook and journalism teams.
If you have any questions at all about a specific class or how the selection of elective courses is made, please do not hesitate to contact Dawn Oaks at director@georgetownhomeschoolgroup.com. Some elective classes may be cancelled or substituted if not enough interest exists.
