Hunter Buffin

Over 17,000 contestants enrolled earlier this year to participate in the first annual National Bible Bee, a motivating Bible memory competition for children and youth from ages 7 to 18. On Saturday, September 12, these contestants competed in approximately 340 Local Bible Bee Contests conducted throughout the United States. From these local events, only one hundred finalists from each of three age groups have been invited to advance to the National Contest for a three-day, world-class competition held in Washington, D.C., on November 4–6, 2009. Hunter Buffin of Georgetown, KY has qualified for a position in this contest.

Hunter Buffin, Age 10, is the son of Brandon and Jennifer Buffin.

Most people are familiar with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, where youth compete annually in the nation’s longest-running educational contest. Instead of memorizing the spelling of words, contestants competing in the National Bible Bee are being asked to answer Bible knowledge questions and recite Bible passages from memory.

Organizers say that the National Bible Bee is much more than a competition—that, at its core, it is all about encouraging young people to memorize the Scriptures so that they may learn, speak, and live out their Christian faith. The overarching goal of the National Bible Bee is to build godly character in young people by motivating them to memorize passages and facts found in the Bible.

Evan Morris

My name is Evan and on Saturday I was hunting from a box blind with my dad in Scott County. I got this 10 point buck first thing in the morning. I was very happy when I dropped it right in its tracks!
